Barnes-Jewish Hospital Foundation's 10th annual illumination gala, held Saturday, May 16, 2009 at the Ritz-Carlton, raised $1.44 million. All proceeds will be used to launch the Foundation's new Cancer Frontier Fund for the Siteman Cancer Center at Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine. Gala Chairs Susan Sherman and Alicia Tlapek, along with Honorary Chairs Amy and Bill Koman Jr., welcomed more than 600 guests to "Fire & Ice," produced by Creative Producers Group and featuring actress and cancer survivor Christina Applegate. The Cancer Frontier Fund is a 10-year, $50 million fundraising drive to accelerate breakthroughs in cancer prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and cure. Siteman Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center within 240 miles of St. Louis and an internationally recognized hub of cancer research and treatment.
